The Legalize Trans* Campaign

The Legalize Trans* campaign is an effort to draw attention to the lack of inclusivity in the popular clothing manufacturer American Apparel's "Legalize Gay" campaign and to highlight transphobia in the broader gay, lesbian, and bisexual community. The campaign is set to create dialogue and educate about issues pertaining to transgender and gender non-conforming individuals.

Get involved in the Legalize Trans* campaign by buying a shirt, buttons, downloading graphics, and getting updated on critical "T" issues.

I like this! I'm also not a fan of the "legalize gay" campaign simply because "gay" is not a very good umbrella term, since it is very male oriented. I get why it would be used, since it's catchy, and everyone knows what the word "gay" means, but I wish LGBTQI would catch on as a catchy phrase. It's a bit clunky, though...

Great idea, but I'm curious how buying a shirt changes living conditions or wins civil rights for trans people? A marketing campaign is NOT a civil rights struggle.

Yeah, I hear the 2 commenters above--we have always suffered from poor marketing/branding. One word that means "not heterosexual" we need to make that word. Will humans legalize what science can't prove? Will we change our not heterosexual babies in the womb with gene therapy? A man in a woman's body? I should never have been born. Big mistake.

Great, it about time some one recognizes the trans-gender community .It seems like between between the argument of if gay marriage is moral,if gay rights are justifiable. We (the trans-gender community) have been over looked assumed lesser importance.Or Clumped in to a grouping of "GAY" when really the issues should be handled in a separate manner.

'Queer' is a good catch all term for not hetereosexual, just thought I'd put that out there :). Furthermore the campaign does aim to help Trans* people directly, as you can sign up to help sell T-shirts as advocacy work, or for surgery costs yourself. "If you need to raise money for surgery, health care costs, or other trans related issues (including non-profit or advocacy work) you can help us sell Legalize Trans shirts and keep part of the proceeds." Taken from legalizetrans.com. Additionally by owning a T-shirt, you can help educate people yourself, when people question you on what the slogan means, which in turn will increase the visibility of trans* issues. By educating people, you can help reduce the discrimination they face.
