Bob Barr for President - Gay & Lesbian Words Banned

In response to a Bob Barr for president blog entry that stated that John McCain is possibly bipolar when it comes to the issues.

I responded asking if Bob Barr was bipolar and discussed his former position against same-sex marriage for gays and lesbians. Well apparently the Bob Barr site doesn't like the words, "sex", "gay", or "lesbian".

Not surprisingly "queer" made it through, although since this post they now banned that word as well.

Here is how the text showed up before moderator approval (Since that time the post has not been authorized and has been deleted).

You voted for the “defense of marriage act” to ban same-*** marriage equality throughout the country, and now say marriage is a states issue and nobody has the right to discriminate. You tried so hard to discriminate against *** and ******* couples. You will never get my vote, to me you are a bigot, plain and simple.

This went through, although I won't be shocked if they delete it.

"You are the bipolar hypocrite - you fought against *** and ******* rights - that is gai and lezbiane (since you ban those words on your site). But surprisingly the word ***** is just fine."

While Libertarians hold many different views on the issue of gay marriage, with some believing marriage, both straight and gay, should not be an issue for government and others believing that gay marriage should be recognized so long as straight marriage is recognized--Libertarians believe "government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships."

This is from the Libertarian Website. While Barr made the mistake in authoring the defence of marriage act, that of which he absolutly opposes, he feels that it is not up to the Federal Government to dictate your love life and such laws should be made by the states. As a libertarian myself, I think all marriage should be recognized weather gay or straight. We are not to allow government to define what the meaning of love is and to think that your feeling for a person are somehow "different" in context than a straight person is ridiculous. The Bob Barr website starrs out many words that make no sense and sometimes it doesnt sensor any words at all. I made the mistake of bitching someone out once thinking that all the foul word I was going to use were going to get starred and all of them posted.

Dont take that as a slam against you or your beliefs or as somehow Bob is anti-gay, it isnt true in the least. People change and Barr has changed more than I thought he ever would.

I understand that constitutionally, states should decide the issue; however, I still wish candidates would stop being so obtuse about their own thoughts. How can we vote for you if you can't express what you believe irregardless of the law. Just say it. "My personal feelings are that marriage is between a man and a woman but as President, I would never use my feelings to discriminate against the basic rights of others." Why is that so hard? If you want to use the Constitution as an excuse, it doesn't make sense to ignore the "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" part.
By the way, the Washington Blade sent McCain a questionnaire regarding LGBT issues. They have posted the responses. I am a little cynical about who actually answered the questions. For some reason, I have a hard time believing McCain sat down and filled it out-he can't even talk about birth control and viagra without being visibly uncomfortable. But, the answers are interesting and sometimes, in my opinion, alarming. The line about supporting "the concept of non-disrcimination" made me do a double take. The concept. Wow.

If Bob Barr takes enough votes away from McCain to keep McCain out of the White House, I'll send him a thank-you note. Otherwise, until I see him hugging Barney Frank and Tammy Baldwin, he's welcome to stay off my property.

You assume that McCain owns Libertarians, so if Libertarians vote for a Libertarian, then that Libertarian is stealing their vote for it's rightful Republican owner. This seems odd.

Libertarians, in contrast, believe that each individual owns himself, and should be allowed to live his own life as he sees fit, provided he does not do violence to, defraud, or violate the property of others.

The marriage problem is that the state treats married people differently than it treats single people. Why? Is there some overriding State interest in my being married, single, monogamous, polygamous, polyandrous, childless, childful, childish or otherwise? I think not. I think it's none of the State's goddamned business.

The solution is for government to stop treating married people differently from single people, and to stop licensing marriage at all. It violates the First Amendment for the state to stick it's nose into relationships which should between a person, his chosen spouse (or spice --- uhhh --- spouses?), and whatever god he believes in.

The legal aspects of marriage (inheritence, medical power of attorney, custody of minor children, etc, etc) should be handled by contract, not by some "one size fits all" definition of what a marriage should be.

Those who want to formalize their relationship and don't attend a church can formalize their relationship in whatever way they want, from community registries, to jumping over a broom, to something completely different which wouldn't occur to me. That's freedom.

Why should he hug Barney Frank. He is so wrong on too many issues. Most recently the bailout. Because of that alone he should be out of congress. I don't care about anything else he is or has done. The bailout was wrong wrong wrong. And a socialst/fasict power grab as well.
